Hi! I'm Rebecca Batdorf. A graduate from Indiana University. My degree program is bachelor of fine arts with a concentration in graphic design. I also studied photography at The Art Institute and at Ivy Tech State College. After graduating in 2013 I did several freelance jobs and worked for FWCS in Fort Wayne. My job at FWCS? Driving school buses! I'm completely proud of that too. It was great experience and required great responsibility. After driving school buses, I decided to reenter college for a certificate program to gain an art k12 teaching certificate. That Is what I am currently pursuing. In the meantime, I am substitute teaching for FWCS in Fort Wayne. It's great experience toward my ultimate goal of teaching art to our youth. So far I'm loving it!
My favorite work that I’m now happy to share with the world.
My metalsmithing is something I’m extremely proud of and the amount of time it takes to make each project is also another reason I personally favor my metals work. I use copper, bronze and pewter. I love pewter for its putty like nature. Its extremely workable and easy to work with but at the same time the low melt point makes it also able to be messed up if not careful.
My favorite thing to do with metals is repose and chasing. The process of putting the copper in the pitch, and bending the metal to the shape you desire is a pleasant thing for me. I am extremely happy with the outcome of my pieces after I have worked on a piece through the process of annealing and putting it back in the pitch to chase.
